Resolved to Reading Richard Rohmer

What does a well-travelled, physically fit, non-smoker with exemplary personal hygiene do as a New Year's resolution? I don't know about you but over the next twelve months I'm going to read every book in Richard Rohmer's bibliography. What else is there?

Joining me on this  journey are my old pals Chris Kelly and Stanley Whyte. We'll be writing about what we find, sharing observations and analyses, at Reading Richard Rohmer. You'll also find seemingly unrelated stuff about Ben Bova, bulldozer eating and the dearth of thrift store porn.

Why Rohmer, you ask? Why not, say, Arthur Hailey? Well, so much of Rohmer's writing, particularly his thrillers, has to do with the country's oil and gas resources. Pretty hot topic, right? Besides, Hailey wrote only ten books (and only Overload had anything to do with energy).

Remember, that's Reading Richard Rohmer.

Next year, Thomas B. Costain!

    1. Philippe Van Rjndt! Of course! But are there really only nine books? A 2015 Van Rjndt Summer Challenge might be just the thing.

  2. I have a half-formed memory of discussing a book with you that I thought had been written by Robert Ludlum, but I am now fairly certain was Ultimatum - or maybe I just meant to ask you about it. In any case, I might have to find a copy myself to jog my memory.

    1. Funny, I have a half-formed memory of discussing Clive Cussler's Night Probe! with you. Does it say soothing about their work that we can't really remember?

By the way, my Jim Lotz collection has grown to four novels. One of them is signed!

  4. I love this Brian! I remember him being everywhere when I was just a little baby bookseller. The bibliography seems to omit his How to Write a Be$t$eller though. That was his too wasn't it?

    1. Eric, that was his alright - published by M&S in 1984. Weirdly, it's one of the few titles available as an ebook. How useful is a book of 30-year-old tips on writing bestsellers? Guess I'll be finding out.
